Our Story

It all began at our previous company, when the soda vending machine bumped up the price from $1.00 to $1.10. We always shared an office, and frequently worked until 2 a.m. writing code. Finding 10 cents in the middle of the night became a challenge. Even after we found the 10 cents, the machine told us that it was out of Mountain Dew. It happened to us twice in one month! The next day, we bought a refrigerator, stocked it with Coke and Mountain Dew, and put a big sign outside our office saying 'Soda 50 cents.' Our new venture was so successful that it put the vending machine out of business within two weeks. We later added ice cream, candy bars, water bottles, chewing gum, chips, and free watermelon on Thursdays. All this... 50 cents on an honor system. We were having a blast! We made $3,000 profit and it all went to charity. It felt great, and we thought how amazing it would be to build a company with the same energy and culture as our "little side venture."   We started ELLKAY with just three people and a vision in Lior's basement. The basement became overcrowded in no time with the growth of the company and the expansion of Lior's family; eventually, we made a new home in a 3,000 sq. ft. warehouse in Saddle Brook, NJ. We marveled at how spacious it was, wondering "how are we ever going to use all this space?" Little did we know that we would quickly outgrow that space, too. In 2010, we purchased a building in Teaneck, NJ, which serves as our worldwide headquarters. And we still share an office today...
